Spine Charts

The following spine chart is for wood shafting shot from longbows. For recurves and high performance longbows add 5-10# bow weight. For selfbows, subtract 5-10# bow weight. For high performance recurves add 10-15# bow weight. For 160 grain points add 5# bow weight. For 190 grain points ad 10# bow weight. This spine chart does not reflect bare shaft testing results. We do not recommend bare shaft testing, but if you insist upon using this method, select 3 sizes starting with the one suggested in the following chart and the next two higher sizes.



The following spine chart is for Easton Aluminum shafting shot from recurves and high performance longbows. For high performance recurves, add 5-10# bow weight. For regular longbows, subtract 5# bow weight. This spine chart does not reflect bare shaft testing results. We do not recommend bare shaft testing, but if you insist upon using this method, select 3 sizes starting with the one suggested in the following chart and the next two higher sizes.



The following are results of my spine testing various aluminum shafts. They were all done on a Scheib Spine Testor and at 26" centers. I used the same method as I would have if doing wood shafting. The left readings are for XX-75 quality shafting. The others are from aluminum shafting with less alloy in its makeup, like the old Gamegetter or 24SRT shafting.
